Quick Tip: Brown Rice

When I first started eating clean, I was very excited to know that my diet would still include rice. Being from an Asian background, and growing up with my dad who ate rice for almost every meal, I tend to eat rice a few times a week.
Before my clean eating began, I was eating white basmati rice. When I started clean eating I switched to long grain brown rice. I use a rice cooker, and my rice always came out perfect when cooking white rice. But when I switched to brown rice, it never turned out the same. It was either mushy, sticky, undercooked or overcooked. I never got that fluffy rice I used to. Mike would complain about it a lot, but I told him I wasn't switching back to white.
I tried brown basmati rice as well and got the same results. I started to think I was stuck with unsatisfactory brown rice, and so I started cooking it less.

While grocery shopping last weekend, I came across brown jasmine rice. I made it a few nights ago and it was a huge success! It came out fluffy, not sticky, not hard, and not mushy.

So if you are having trouble with regular brown rice, try the brown jasmine rice instead!
